About the General Worker Vacancies 2025

Functional Units and Job Tasks

Each General Worker will assist in maintaining clean, functional, and healthy environments for the public. Below are some key departments and duties where successful candidates will be placed:

Parks & Cemeteries:

  • Grave Digging (35 positions)
  • Horticultural Maintenance (40 positions)
  • Landscaping (10 positions)

Solid Waste Management:

  • Door-to-Door Refuse Collection (14)
  • Illegal Dumping Control (20)
  • Public Cleansing (15)
  • Trade Waste (8)
  • Domestic Waste (7)
  • Special Waste Removal (3)
  • Disposal Site Operations (9)

Technical & Infrastructure Services:

  • Roads and Stormwater (109)
  • Water Demand Management (57)
  • Sanitation and Sewer Purification (100)

Other Units:

  • Fresh Produce Market (5)
  • Facilities Maintenance (18)

Salary and Benefits

Successful applicants will be appointed at Salary Level 16/15, earning between R210,300 and R219,672 per annum, depending on experience and placement. Along with this, employees will gain municipal job stability, training opportunities, and a sense of pride in contributing to the city’s improvement.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify:

  • Education: At least Grade 8 (Basic Literacy)
  • Languages: Must be able to speak and write in two official languages used in Mangaung
  • Experience: Not required, but having previous general labour experience will be an advantage
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform manual tasks
  • Willing to work overtime or during emergencies when required
  • Must show dedication to service delivery and be passionate about improving the community

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a General Worker at Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Performing general labour and cleaning duties in public spaces
  • Helping with waste collection, sanitation, and maintenance operations
  • Supporting teams with grave digging, landscaping, and water management
  • Keeping communities clean, safe, and environmentally friendly
  • Reporting any challenges or issues to supervisors
  • Following safety, health, and environmental regulations at all times
