SANParks invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the 2025 Tourism Safety Monitor Vacancies (X250 Posts). The closing date for applications is 30 July 2025.

Are you a young, unemployed South African with a passion for tourism, nature, or protecting South Africa’s national treasures? If yes, this is your chance to take part in something meaningful while getting paid. The Department of Tourism, in partnership with SANParks (South African National Parks), is hiring 250 participants for their Tourism Monitors Programme for 2025.

This opportunity is part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and is aimed at creating job opportunities while strengthening visitor safety in some of South Africa’s most beautiful and visited national parks.

The programme will run for 7 months and includes both theoretical training and practical on-site experience at major tourist destinations across the country. You’ll be paid a daily rate of R200, which adds up to around R8,000 per month.

What Is the Tourism Monitors Programme?

The Tourism Safety Monitors Programme is a government initiative designed to:

  • Improve visitor safety in tourist hotspots
  • Offer training and real-world experience to unemployed youth
  • Provide income while participants build their future careers

If you are selected, you’ll be placed at a national park or tourist site near where you live. You’ll assist visitors, monitor safety, and help manage the flow of tourists to keep everyone informed, comfortable, and secure.

You’ll also gain valuable skills related to:

  • Customer service
  • Site monitoring and control
  • Tourism safety protocols
  • Basic administration
  • Public interaction and visitor support

Who Can Apply?

  • Have a matric certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Be fluent in English
  • Live within 40–100 km of the site/park you’re applying to (proof of residence is required)
  • Be fit enough to pass a physical fitness test (you may need to run 2.4 km, do 25 push-ups and 25 sit-ups)
  • Be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
  • Have your own reliable transport to and from the work location
  • Have a genuine interest in tourism or conservation

People living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Note: Only one candidate per household will be accepted, and no affidavits will be accepted as proof of address.

Where Will You Work?

Successful candidates will be placed at one of many SANParks locations across South Africa, including:

  • Kruger National Park
  • Table Mountain National Park
  • Addo Elephant National Park
  • Agulhas National Park
  • West Coast National Park
  • Bontebok National Park
  • Namaqua National Park
  • Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
  • Karoo, Camdeboo, Golden Gate, Richtersveld, and many others

Each site has its own contact email and application link. You must apply to the park closest to where you live, and clearly state the reference number on your application.

What You’ll Get

  • R200/day stipend (roughly R8,000/month before deductions)
  • 7 months of training and job experience
  • A chance to work in one of South Africa’s most beautiful places
  • Entry into the tourism and conservation industry
