The Student Housing Cleaner position focuses on keeping student residences and shared facilities clean, hygienic, and ready for use at all times. This includes daily cleaning, deep cleaning during busy periods, and preparing spaces for special events or accommodation changes.
Working through Afrizan People Intelligence, you may be placed in a tertiary or university residence environment. These environments are active and fast-paced, especially during term time, registration periods, and vacations. The role requires energy, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions carefully.
As a Student Housing Cleaner, you will clean a wide range of spaces within student residences. These include common areas where students gather, such as lounges, TV rooms, and communal spaces. Communal kitchens will need regular cleaning to ensure hygiene and food safety standards are maintained.
You will also be responsible for cleaning ablution facilities, including toilets, showers, and wash areas. These spaces must be cleaned thoroughly and regularly to ensure they remain safe and hygienic for all residents.
Other areas include computer labs, staff offices, mess rooms, store rooms, plant rooms, and rooms designed for students with disabilities. During deregistration and vacation periods, you may be required to clean rooms and flats after students move out and prepare them for new occupants.
This role also involves preparing venues before and after meetings, functions, and events. This may include setting up rooms, cleaning floors and surfaces, and making sure the space is ready for use.
During vacation accommodation periods, you may assist with making up beds, washing crockery and cutlery, and cleaning accommodation before and after guests arrive. Once guests leave, you will help with recleaning and decommissioning rooms so they are ready for the next use.
Outdoor areas are also part of your responsibility. These include courtyards, parking areas, entrances, water channels, and pool areas, including change rooms. Keeping these areas clean helps improve safety and creates a welcoming environment.
Following correct cleaning procedures is very important in this role. You will be expected to use cleaning products correctly and avoid waste or misuse. Training and guidance will be provided, but you must always follow instructions and standards.
Health and safety play a major role in student housing environments. You must follow all safety policies and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment when required. You may also be required to act as a Fire Marshal, which means being alert and knowing what to do in emergency situations.
If you notice faulty equipment, maintenance issues, or safety risks, you must report them to the correct residence or management structures. This helps prevent accidents and ensures issues are fixed quickly.
Afrizan People Intelligence also supports sustainability initiatives within university environments. As a Cleaner, you will be expected to assist with efforts to save power, conserve water, and manage waste properly. This includes responsible use of resources and correct waste separation where applicable.

To apply for this position, a minimum qualification of NQF Level 1 is required. You should have at least one month of relevant cleaning experience. Experience in a tertiary or large-scale cleaning environment will be an advantage, but it is not always essential.
