Baxter Theatre Centre Invites Applications for 15 Usher Vacancies (Ad-Hoc Positions) – Closing Date: 17 October 2025

The Baxter Theatre Centre is calling on friendly, reliable, and passionate individuals to apply for 15 Usher positions within their Front of House Department. These roles are ad-hoc positions, starting from 10 November 2025, and are perfect for people who love working with others, enjoy theatre environments, and take pride in excellent customer service.

If you have a warm personality, good communication skills, and can handle busy environments with ease, this could be a wonderful opportunity for you to be part of one of South Africa’s most respected theatre centres.

About the Job

As a Baxter Theatre Usher, you will be responsible for making sure every visitor has an enjoyable and safe experience. You’ll help guests find their seats, guide them to facilities like restrooms and restaurants, and make sure all events run smoothly. Ushers play a big role in setting the mood for the show — your professionalism, friendliness, and quick thinking will make guests feel welcome and cared for.

This role is ad-hoc, meaning work will depend on the Baxter Theatre’s event schedule. If you enjoy flexible working hours, especially evenings and weekends, this position could suit your lifestyle perfectly.

What You Need to Apply

To qualify for this exciting opportunity, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate (Matric).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, both spoken and written.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other official South African language.
  • Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure.
  • Quick thinking and alertness in emergency situations.
  • Teamwork and independence — you must work well with others but also handle tasks on your own when needed.
  • Strong customer service attitude — a genuine interest in helping people.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, according to theatre events.

Having previous experience in hospitality or a theatre environment will be an advantage but is not required.

Your Daily Responsibilities

As a Baxter Theatre Usher, your main duties will include:

  • Welcoming and assisting patrons upon arrival.
  • Scanning tickets and helping guests find their correct seats.
  • Making sure everyone is seated on time before shows begin.
  • Guiding patrons to facilities such as the restaurant, bar, and restrooms.
  • Providing assistance to those with special needs or mobility challenges.
  • Handling seating issues or disputes in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ensuring public safety and guiding people to exits or entrances when needed.
  • Maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude throughout the event.

This position pays R50.91 per hour, offering a fair rate for part-time or casual employment while gaining valuable work experience in a prestigious setting.
