BME, a Division of Omnia, Is Hiring Packhouse Assistants – 11 Permanent Opportunities Available

BME, a division of Omnia, invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Packhouse Assistant Vacancies (11 Posts). This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and ready to work in a structured production environment. The closing date for applications is 18 December 2025, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply before the deadline to avoid missing out.

A Solid Job Opportunity with a Trusted Industrial Company

BME, part of the Omnia Group, is a well-established company operating in the explosives and mining solutions sector. The company is known for its strict safety standards, high-quality production processes, and commitment to responsible operations. Working at BME means becoming part of a professional environment where safety, teamwork, and accuracy matter every day.

The Packhouse Assistant role plays a very important part in the final stage of production. This is where completed explosive products are packed, checked, and prepared for storage or transport. If this stage is done correctly, it helps ensure safety, compliance, and product quality.

What the Packhouse Assistant Role Is About

The main purpose of the Packhouse Assistant position is to pack finished explosive products in a safe, accurate, and organised way. Employees must make sure that all boxes are packed according to company rules, weighed correctly, and labelled with the correct information.

This role requires focus, discipline, and the ability to follow instructions carefully. Because the work environment involves explosives, safety rules must be followed at all times without exception.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Packing Finished Products Correctly

Packhouse Assistants are responsible for ensuring that finished explosive products are packed in boxes using the correct quantities. Each box must match the required product count and specification to avoid errors and safety risks.

Weighing and Labelling Boxes

Every packed box must be weighed and labelled accurately. Labels must clearly show the correct product details as required by company standards. Attention to detail is very important in this part of the job.

Safe and Secure Packaging

The role requires employees to pack boxes in a way that keeps the product safe and secure. Boxes must be closed properly, sealed correctly, and prepared for stacking or storage.

Box Preparation and Palletising Tasks

Packhouse Assistants will also be involved in preparing boxes before packing begins. This includes:

  • Applying glue at the bottom of the box
  • Folding the box correctly
  • Sealing the box with tape
  • Closing and securing completed boxes
  • Palletising boxes and wrapping them with shrink wrap

These steps help ensure that products remain protected during handling and transport.

Production Targets and Material Control

Meeting Daily Production Targets

Packhouse Assistants are expected to meet daily production targets. This means working efficiently while still maintaining safety and quality standards.

Ensuring Material Availability

Employees must help ensure that raw materials and components are always available so that production is not interrupted. This supports smooth workflow and reduces downtime.

Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance

Strict Safety Requirements

Because this role operates within an explosives environment, employees must follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Explosives Act at all times. Working safely is not optional and is taken very seriously.

Good Housekeeping Practices

Packhouse Assistants must keep their work areas clean and organised. Good housekeeping reduces risks, improves efficiency, and supports a safe working environment.

Transfer Documentation

When finished products are moved to the magazine, Packhouse Assistants must ensure that the correct transfer documents are attached according to company procedures.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for the Packhouse Assistant role, applicants must meet the following educational requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
  • One-year certificate in a relevant production-related qualification

These qualifications help ensure that candidates understand basic production processes and workplace expectations.

Required Experience

Applicants should have the following experience:

  • At least one year of experience in assembling and packaging explosive accessories using an assembly line
  • At least one year of experience working in an explosives environment while applying occupational health and safety standards

This experience is important to ensure that employees can perform their duties safely and correctly from day one.

Job Knowledge and Competencies

BME is looking for individuals who have the right attitude and skills for this role. Key competencies include:

Work Performance Skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet daily production targets
  • Good hand-eye coordination

Basic Technical Skills
