Boston City Campus invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Receptionist Vacancy. The closing date for applications is 30 November. This is a great chance for someone who enjoys working with people, creating a welcoming environment and supporting daily administrative operations within a busy educational setting.

About Boston City Campus

Boston City Campus is one of South Africa’s respected higher education institutions, known for offering a wide range of accredited qualifications and career-focused learning. The campus environment serves students, parents, corporate partners and a variety of individuals who require professional assistance and guidance daily. Because of this, the Receptionist plays a vital role in shaping the first impression that visitors have of the institution.

For job seekers who want a stable, professional role with growth possibilities in the education sector, this position offers a strong foundation. The working environment is structured, busy and supportive, ideal for someone who enjoys interacting with people and staying organised.

The Importance of the Receptionist Role

A Receptionist is often the first point of contact in an organisation. This means the person appointed must be friendly, approachable, confident and able to manage many tasks at once. In a higher education environment, the Receptionist assists students, parents, staff members, suppliers and external visitors. Every interaction must be handled professionally, respectfully and efficiently.

This position is suited to someone who enjoys helping others, remains calm under pressure and can build positive relationships with different types of people. As the “face and voice” of the campus, the Receptionist helps the organisation run smoothly by providing administrative support and managing front desk operations.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

Welcoming Visitors

The Receptionist will:

  • Greet visitors warmly
  • Provide directions or assistance based on the reason for their visit
  • Ensure that every guest feels acknowledged and respected
  • Maintain a welcoming presence at all times

Because visitors may be students, parents, suppliers or first-time guests, a polite and friendly approach is essential.

Managing Phone Calls

Daily duties include:

  • Answering incoming calls professionally
  • Directing callers to the right department or staff member
  • Taking clear messages when necessary
  • Ensuring all calls are handled without unnecessary delays

Effective telephone communication shows professionalism and helps the organisation run efficiently.

Handling Mail and Deliveries

The Receptionist will be responsible for:

  • Receiving incoming mail and packages
  • Logging and distributing items to the correct departments
  • Preparing outgoing mail when required

This ensures important information and documents reach the correct people on time.

Managing Meeting Rooms

The position also requires:

  • Scheduling meeting rooms
  • Ensuring rooms are neat and prepared
  • Coordinating use between internal teams and visitors

This responsibility supports organised teamwork and professional presentations.

Maintaining the Front Desk Area

A professional work environment is important. The Receptionist must:

  • Keep the reception area clean, tidy and welcoming
  • Ensure that materials, brochures and stationery are organised
  • Maintain a work area that reflects the campus’s professional image

Supporting Administrative Tasks

In addition to front desk duties, the Receptionist will assist with:

  • Filing documents
  • Capturing and updating information
  • Copying, printing and scanning
  • Small office tasks that support daily operations

These tasks allow managers and other staff to focus on core business functions.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Experience in a Receptionist or customer service position is preferred
  • Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and behaviour
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to stay calm, organised and productive in a busy environment
  • A three-year diploma (NQF level 6) is an added advantage

These requirements ensure that applicants can handle both communication and administrative tasks effectively.

Important Personal Qualities

This role suits someone who:

  • Enjoys interacting with different people daily
  • Can multitask without sacrificing quality
  • Pays attention to detail
  • Works well in structured environments
  • Represents the organisation in a professional manner

A Receptionist influences how people feel about the campus, so a confident and friendly personality is valuable for success.

Growth Opportunities in This Role

Reception positions often lead to long-term career paths such as:

  • Office Administrator
  • Student Support Officer
  • Personal Assistant
  • Administrative Coordinator
  • Campus Support Administrator

This makes the job a strong starting point for individuals who want to grow in administration or education-related fields.
