What You’ll Be Doing in This Job

Cartrack is looking for someone who can work under pressure and stay focused. In a control room, there is no room for laziness because one missed alert can cause big problems.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Below are the key duties for Cartrack CCTV Operators:

1) Monitoring Alarm-Based Systems

You will monitor applications that alert the team when something unusual happens. This may include:

  • alarm triggers
  • unauthorized movement
  • suspicious activity notifications
  • system alerts

Your job is to respond quickly and correctly according to procedures.

2) Monitoring Live Streaming CCTV

This is one of the biggest responsibilities. You’ll be watching CCTV video feeds to identify:

  • suspicious behaviour
  • possible theft or break-ins
  • movement on and offsite
  • unusual patterns

This requires someone who is sharp, patient, and observant.

3) Daily CCTV and System Checks

You will check that CCTV and other monitoring systems are working properly every day. That includes:

  • checking cameras are online
  • ensuring feeds are clear
  • confirming systems are recording
  • reporting technical problems

A good CCTV operator makes sure the system is always ready.

4) Data Capturing and Reporting

Cartrack requires strong reporting because every incident must be recorded.

You will do:

  • data capturing
  • incident reports
  • daily reporting tasks

This is why they want someone with good computer literacy and report-writing skills.

5) Communication About Movements On/Offsite

You’ll communicate important information regarding:

  • vehicles entering/leaving
  • suspicious movements
  • incidents happening on-site
  • security alerts

Clear communication can prevent delays and help response teams do their job faster.

6) Communicating With Armed Response and Supervisors

When needed, you must contact:

  • armed response teams
  • field supervisors

You’ll provide detailed information so the response team knows what to do and where to go.

This is a responsibility that requires maturity and calmness.

7) Customer Service Standards

A lot of people don’t expect customer service in security jobs, but at Cartrack it matters.

You must:

  • treat clients professionally
  • respond politely and efficiently
  • maintain exceptional service levels

Cartrack wants clients to feel safe and supported.

Minimum Requirements to Apply

Before applying, make sure you meet the requirements. Cartrack is strict about these.

Requirements

To qualify, you must have:

Matric

  • Completed Matric (Grade 12) is compulsory

  • Must be PSIRA registered

This is a big requirement and helps prove that you are legally allowed to work in security.

Advanced Computer Skills

You must have:

  • advanced computer literacy
  • ability to use monitoring systems
  • strong report-writing skills

Control room work is not manual labour — it is tech-based.

Control Room Experience

You must have:

  • at least 12 months control room experience

If you’ve worked in security control rooms, CCTV rooms, monitoring centres, or alarm response centres, that counts strongly.

Shift Schedule (Very Important)

Not everyone can work these shifts, so read carefully.

Work Schedule

Cartrack uses a rotating 12-hour shift plan:

  • 2 days Day Shift: 06h00 – 18h00
  • 2 days Night Shift: 18h00 – 06h00
  • 4 days Off

This schedule is good for people who like having several days off at a time, but you must be comfortable with night shift.

  • you work indoors
  • you work with systems and technology
  • experience can help you grow into better-paying security roles

What You Gain From This Opportunity

If you take this job seriously, you can build a strong security career path such as:

  • Senior Control Room Operator
  • CCTV Supervisor
  • Operations Controller
  • Monitoring Centre Team Lead
  • Security Controller / Coordinator roles
