About the Cashier Role

As a Cashier at Cashbuild, your main job is to handle all Point of Sale (POS) transactions accurately and ensure that every customer leaves the store satisfied. You’ll play a crucial role in preventing loss by making sure that all items are paid for before leaving the store. If you have experience with cash handling and can work well under pressure, this job might be for you.

Key Responsibilities of a Cashier:

Cash Handling: You’ll be responsible for balancing all cash, including floats and petty cash, ensuring there are no shortages or overages. You’ll also need to make sure that all goods are correctly identified and recorded on the POS terminal, and that the correct payment type is captured.

Customer Service: Offering fast, friendly, and efficient service is key. You’ll greet customers, assist them with their purchases, and make sure they’re directed to the right person if they need further help.

Administration: You’ll sign, compile, and file all related documents for the cashier’s function, ensuring that everything is in order.

Ready for Business: Adhere to the “Ready for Business” and “Beyond My Control” principles as per Cashbuild’s guidelines.

Safety and Security: You’ll comply with Safety (OHSA) requirements, ensuring customer and staff safety in your area. You’ll also be responsible for security at the till point, including password control and cash safe-keeping.

Requirements for Cashier:

  • Grade 12 or at least one year of related work experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in your area.
  • Strong basic math skills for accurate calculations.
  • Must have good administration skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.

About the General Assistant Role

As a General Assistant at Cashbuild, your job is to ensure that customers receive excellent service and that the store is well-maintained. You’ll be involved in merchandising, price labeling, and keeping your area clean and safe. If you’re someone who enjoys working in a team and can handle various tasks, this role could be a great fit for you.

Key Responsibilities of a General Assistant:

Customer Service: You’ll advise and assist customers with their queries and product selections, and help resolve any complaints they might have.

Merchandising Standards: You’ll ensure that the bulk stock area is safely merchandised according to the store layout. Keeping your area fully stocked and following the planograms is crucial.

Housekeeping: You’ll make sure that your area is free of obstacles, stock is immediately merchandised after being received, and that customers can move safely and comfortably within the aisle. You’ll also handle the checklist for canteen and toilet/shower schedules.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements: Ensuring that your area complies with safety regulations is a big part of this role. You’ll make sure that stock is merchandised safely and report any discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Stock Loss Management: You’ll report any damaged stock within your area to the Store Manager, helping to minimize loss.

Drive for Results: You’ll work towards achieving set targets, delivering high-quality work, and following through on your commitments.

Problem Solving and Decision Making: You’ll identify and resolve problems in your area, make decisions within company policies, and implement those decisions effectively.

Planning and Pressure Handling: You’ll plan your tasks according to operational policies and handle pressure well, staying consistent even during busy times.

Collaboration and Communication: You’ll work well with customers, suppliers, and colleagues, handling conflict situations effectively and ensuring that relevant information is shared with the right people.

Requirements for General Assistant:

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with one year of related experience, or Grade 12 without related experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in your area.
  • Valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Basic math skills for accurate calculations.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
