Available Positions

The current open Security Guard positions include:

  • Security Guard (X12 Posts)
  • Security Guard – Armed Response (X12 Posts)

These roles involve both regular and armed response duties depending on your qualifications and certifications.

Salary Information

Successful applicants will earn between R225,636 and R274,344 per year, depending on experience and position type.

Minimum Requirements to Apply

To qualify for these Security Guard roles, you must meet the following:

  • At least Grade 10 qualification.
  • PSIRA Certificate (Grade C).
  • Must be able to read and write in English as well as one additional official language.
  • Hold a Code EB driver’s license.

Experience Needed

  • At least 2 years of experience in response duties or working in the security field.
  • Firearm competency will be a strong advantage during the shortlisting process.

Other Requirements and Certifications

  • PSIRA registration is mandatory.
  • Completion of the National Key Point (NKP) course will be an added advantage.
  • Firearm competency certificate (especially for armed response roles).
  • Applicants with any criminal records or unresolved disciplinary cases should not apply.

Key Job Responsibilities

If you are successful, your main duties will include:

  • Responding to incidents that occur within the municipal areas.
  • Conducting regular patrols in assigned zones.
  • Keeping watch for suspicious activities or potential threats.
  • Preventing unauthorized access to Centlec properties.
  • Providing peace of mind to executives through static duties.
  • Investigating and reporting on any attempted break-ins or security breaches.
  • Deterring and stopping any illegal activities at the workplace.
  • Performing personal protection duties as required.

Special Requirements for Armed Response Positions

If you apply for one of the Armed Response positions, you will also need to:

  • Complete fitness training before your appointment.
  • Pass a driving test.
  • Undergo SAPS background checks and medical tests.
  • Patrol various Centlec substations and report back to the control room.
  • Understand the legal rules of arrest and follow proper procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing quarterly shooting practices and the NKP annual shooting program to remain compliant with legal standards.
