What You’ll Be Doing as a Checkers Baker
Every day will be busy and rewarding. You’ll help make sure customers get freshly baked goods that meet Checkers’ high standards.
Here’s what you’ll do:
1. Prepare and Produce Fresh Baked Goods
- Bake breads, rolls, pastries, and other products according to company recipes.
- Make sure every product looks good, tastes great, and is ready on time.
- Follow precise baking instructions to maintain consistency across all items.
2. Maintain Quality and Hygiene Standards
- Apply food safety, hygiene, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Ensure the baking area is clean, organized, and compliant with OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) rules.
- Handle all food items carefully and maintain cleanliness to meet Checkers’ standards.
3. Plan and Manage Daily Production
- Follow the bakery’s production schedule to meet daily customer demand.
- Help maximize sales while limiting waste and ensuring fresh stock throughout the day.
- Pay attention to details — from mixing ingredients to packaging finished goods.
4. Support and Train Others
- Coach bakery assistants and new bakers, helping them improve their skills.
- Share your knowledge to maintain product quality and team efficiency.
What You Need to Qualify
To join Checkers as a Baker, here’s what you’ll need:
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
- Experience:
- Previous experience as a baker or bakery assistant in a retail environment.
- Experience baking various goods such as breads, pastries, and rolls.
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with food safety procedures and hygiene standards will be beneficial.
- Certificate in Baking or Food Preparation: Advantageous but not required.
