City of Ekurhuleni Is Hiring: Apply for General Worker Rodent Control Jobs – No Experience Needed, R4000 Monthly Pay!

The City of Ekurhuleni invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their General Worker (Rodent Control Programme) Vacancies (X15 Posts). The closing date for applications is 26 May 2025.

Are you a resident of Ekurhuleni looking for a job that helps your community? Here’s your chance. The City of Ekurhuleni is offering temporary General Worker positions under their Rodent Control Programme. If you have Grade 10 and live in the same ward where you want to work, you could qualify. This job doesn’t need special skills or experience—just a passion for helping your area stay clean and healthy.

The City is looking for active individuals to work as Rodent Control Ambassadors. You will go door-to-door in your community to teach people about rodent control and basic environmental health. This is a great opportunity to gain work experience while earning R4,000 per month.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for this position, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 10 or equivalent qualification
  • Must live in Ekurhuleni and in the same ward where you will work (you must attach proof of residence with your application)

If you’re not sure how to get proof of residence, you can use a letter from your local councillor or a utility bill with your name and address on it.

What Will You Do in This Role?

As a Rodent Control General Worker, your main job is to educate and protect your community. You’ll be working directly with people, handing out pamphlets, visiting homes, and supporting environmental campaigns.

Here are your daily tasks:

  • Go from house to house in your ward and teach residents about rodent control
  • Share important health information and environmental tips
  • Hand out pamphlets during visits
  • Invite community members to block meetings and health awareness events
  • Check homes for rodent infestations and report back
  • Keep in touch with Environmental Health Practitioners (your supervisors)
  • Help organize rodent control campaigns and attend events
  • Inspect at least 30 premises per day
  • Fill in attendance registers and data forms every day
  • Keep records of how many houses you visited and pamphlets you gave out
  • Follow up on homes with known infestations
  • Give health talks during community campaigns and help manage event attendance

This job is ward-based, meaning you’ll work in the area where you live. That’s why it’s very important to include your Ward Number in your application address.

Why This Job Matters

Rodents are a serious problem in many communities, and they can spread diseases. By joining this programme, you’ll play a big part in keeping your area safe and healthy. You’ll also gain real work experience, learn how to work in teams, and build your communication skills.

This job isn’t just about money—it’s about making a difference in your own neighbourhood.

Additional Information

  • This is a temporary assignment, so it won’t last forever—but it can lead to new opportunities if you do well.
  • Monthly pay is R4,000, which is great for entry-level work.
  • You will be working under Environmental Health Practitioners and will report to them daily.
  • You may need to submit proof of your qualification level (NQF level) if asked.
  • If you don’t hear back within six weeks after the closing date (26 May 2025), your application was not successful.
  • The City of Ekurhuleni supports Employment Equity and has the right to decide who to appoint or not appoint.

Ready to Apply?

Make sure you have:

  • Your Grade 10 certificate
  • Proof of where you live (and include your Ward Number in your address)
