What Will You Do as a Shop Assistant / Cashier?

Skills and Knowledge You Need to Succeed

To do well in this role, you should know some basic math to handle prices and cash. Experience in retail or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) jobs can help, but it’s okay if you are new. Understanding how stock and sales promotions work is useful too.

You should also have certain skills, including:

• Being able to plan and stay organized throughout your shift
• Solving problems that come up in the store
