The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is calling on suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV) Vacancies (56 Posts) across South Africa. Northern Management Region – 20 Posts

Salary and Contract Details

  • Salary: R85,620 per year (Level 05)
  • Additional Benefits: 37% allowance in place of normal benefits
  • Contract Length: 36 months (3 years)

This contract role gives you valuable experience while serving communities and correctional facilities.


Who Can Apply – Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A Grade 12 / Senior Certificate.
  • Computer literacy with good accuracy.
  • A recommendation or nomination from a community organization (not older than six months).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be passionate about community service and have knowledge of Batho Pele principles.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Assertiveness and ability to work under pressure.
  • A valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.
  • Preference will be given to applicants living near the correctional centre where the vacancy is available.

What You Will Be Doing – Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Visiting correctional facilities daily and engaging with inmates and staff to resolve complaints.
  • Monitoring prison conditions and reporting on findings.
  • Keeping track of incidents, including deaths, use of force, segregation, and mechanical restraints.
  • Assisting with inspections and investigations.
  • Handling administrative duties, including record-keeping and detailed report writing.

This role is vital in ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability within correctional facilities.
