Department of Defence: 96 Admin Clerk Jobs Open Now-No Experience Needed!

There are two main types of admin clerk jobs available:

  • Provisioning Administration Clerk: Production (61 Posts)
  • Administration Clerk: Production (35 Posts)

Both offer the same salary range and require a Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) or something similar. No previous work experience? No problem! Training in things like asset management, procurement, or codification will help but isn’t a must-have.

These admin clerk roles are spread across South Africa at various military bases and offices. Some locations include Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, and many more. This means you might find a position near your home or maybe somewhere new to explore as you grow your career.

What Will You Be Doing Day to Day?

Your daily work will depend a bit on which role you get, but here are some key tasks for each position:

Provisioning Administration Clerk Responsibilities:

  • Support the unit’s supply needs by keeping accurate records of goods and equipment.
  • Receive, distribute, and safely store stock.
  • Issue and finalize stock vouchers.
  • Keep warehouse stock secure and well organized.
  • Monitor stock levels and help order new items when needed.
  • Update important policy documents and handle routine office correspondence.
  • Use computer systems to keep records updated and accurate.
  • Assist with basic calculations and reports related to stock items.

General Administration Clerk Responsibilities:

  • Handle clerical work to support managing logistical documents.
  • Allocate document ID numbers and control revision levels.
  • Enter logistics data into computer databases.
  • Help securely destroy classified or outdated documents.
  • Take part in physical audits of files and registers to ensure all paperwork is accounted for.
  • Manage filing and tracking for all official documentation.
  • Monitor document movements and safeguard sensitive information.
  • Work closely with others to maintain smooth document control systems.

What Skills Do You Need?

The Department of Defence wants people who are reliable and can manage many tasks well. Here’s what will help you succeed:

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent (NQF Level 4).
  • Good knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both speaking and writing.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good typing and phone skills.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • Respect for confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
  • Basic math and numerical ability.

If you have experience or training related to asset management, procurement, or codification, that’s a bonus. But it’s okay if you’re just starting out—you can learn on the job.
