What is a Frontshop Assistant?

As a Frontshop Assistant, you’ll be the face of Dis-Chem. You’ll help make sure shelves are always stocked, customers are happy, and the store runs smoothly. You’ll also get hands-on training in everything from merchandising to processing sales at the till.

Minimum Requirements to Apply

Essential Requirements:

• Matric / Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
• 0–6 months retail experience (even just holiday or weekend work counts!)

Advantageous (Not Required but Helpful):

• 1 year of retail experience
• A certificate or diploma in Retail Business Management

Key Job Duties & Responsibilities

As a Frontshop Assistant, you’ll do a bit of everything:

Stock & Merchandising

• Make sure all products are neatly displayed and fully stocked
• Check product expiry dates and remove expired items
• Refill stock from storerooms and ensure items are in the correct place
• Maintain pricing and display accuracy at all times
• Report low or out-of-stock items to managers

Customer Service

• Help customers find products and answer questions
• Be friendly, helpful, and professional
• Handle product returns and exchanges (when authorised)
• Process loyalty cards and customer payments

Till & Cash Handling

• Receive payments via cash, card, vouchers, or coupons
• Make sure cash is secured according to store rules
• Keep accurate cash flow and prevent till shortages
• Ensure all voids and price changes are approved by a supervisor

Stockroom & Housekeeping

• Keep the storeroom clean and organised
• Help with stocktaking, counting, and reporting damaged or expired goods
• Assist with loading/unloading stock and unpacking boxes
• Follow health and safety and cleanliness rules

What Skills Will You Need?

Essential Competencies:

• Basic knowledge of retail operations
• Can solve simple problems or know when to ask for help
• Understands basic math (adding, subtracting, etc.)
• Able to communicate clearly with customers and team members
• Stays focused and works well under pressure
• Follows procedures and completes tasks on time

Bonus Skills (Advantageous):

• Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Familiarity with SAP systems (not essential)

• Must be able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
• Must be a South African citizen
• Must have no criminal record or negative credit history
• Driver’s license and reliable transport is a plus
• Must pass MIE (background screening)
