What Does a Sales Assistant Do?

As a Sales Assistant at Dis-Chem Baby City, your job is all about providing excellent customer service and making sure everything in the store runs smoothly.

You’ll help customers find what they need, keep the store clean and fully stocked, and work at the till to process payments. You’ll also be responsible for making sure items on shelves are fresh, priced correctly, and presented neatly.

It’s a fast-paced job, but if you enjoy working with people and keeping things organized, it’s also very rewarding.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Your daily tasks as a Sales Assistant will include:

Reporting low, damaged, or expired stock to management
Helping with stock counts and stocktaking
Restocking shelves and keeping the store neat
Flattening boxes and removing packaging waste
Making sure products are not past their sell-by dates
Building product displays for promotions
Ensuring price tags and signs are correct and visible
Helping customers with questions and offering advice
Processing payments accurately at the till
Handling customer complaints and compliments professionally
Promoting and handling loyalty cards
Ensuring all items leaving the store have been paid for

You’ll also be expected to learn about new products so you can give better advice and support to customers.

Who Should Apply?

To qualify for this job, you must:

Have Grade 12 / Matric
Have 6 months to 1 year of retail work experience
Be able to speak and understand English well
Have basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Be honest, reliable, and hard-working
Be a South African citizen
Have clear credit and criminal records
Be willing to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

If you have a Retail Business Management Certificate, that’s a bonus—but it’s not required.
