What You Need Before You Apply

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • At least 6 months of experience working as a cashier or doing till operations
  • Basic computer skills, especially MS Office
  • Good numerical ability
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Basic customer service knowledge
  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours, which may include weekends and holidays

What Your Day Will Look Like

Your daily responsibilities will involve interacting with customers, processing transactions, and maintaining a clean and safe checkout area. Here’s what you will do:

Customer Service and Store Support

  • Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service guidelines at all times
  • Build positive relationships with customers
  • Report customer feedback—whether complaints or compliments—to your Frontline Supervisor
  • Keep up to date with sales, specials, and promotions
  • Make sure customers and colleagues are not exposed to any risks
  • Apply Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles

Cash Handling and Transaction Duties

  • Take responsibility for your own cash flow throughout the day
  • Ensure voids and price changes are approved by a supervisor
  • Handle exchanges and returns when authorised
  • Process all types of payments including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and partner loyalty programmes
  • Manage Dis-Chem loyalty cards and partner loyalty cards such as Momentum Multiply, Medihelp Lifestage, Discovery Health Care, ABSA Rewards, Legacy Lifestyle, and eBucks
  • Use the drop safe according to company rules
  • Keep your login code private and update it regularly
  • Make sure all items leaving the store are paid for and scanned correctly
  • Keep money secure in the till and handle daily takings with confidentiality

Safety and Store Standards

  • Stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour to management
  • Assist customers with questions about store merchandise
  • Follow all store security procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organised checkout area

These tasks require accuracy, honesty, and quick thinking, especially during peak trading times.
