Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Johannesburg is offering an exciting opportunity for a Security Guard to join their team. The role is to deliver a professional security service as outlined by the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001. The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting Dis-Chem’s assets, property, and staff by maintaining a safe environment, identifying signs of potential criminal activity, and investigating any disturbances while adhering to security legislation and industry best practices.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:
Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
PSIRA Grade C accreditation
Minimum of 3 years of security experience in a retail environment (shopping malls, warehouses, etc.)
Advantageous:
At least 1 year of specific experience in a similar security role

Key Responsibilities:

Surveillance & Patrols: Conduct regular patrols of the premises, ensuring visibility to deter criminal activities and reduce risks.

Access Control: Monitor and regulate entry to the premises, ensuring only authorized personnel, vehicles, or visitors have access.

Incident Reporting: Investigate and report any signs of damage, theft, or unlawful entry to management promptly.

Customer Service: Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor while interacting with customers, staff, and visitors.

Safety & Security: Perform personnel searches, vehicle inspections, and ensure all security measures such as locking doors and windows, checking taps, and monitoring alarms are enforced.

Emergency Management: Respond promptly during crisis situations, assisting emergency responders and enforcing order during evacuations.

Documentation: Complete all necessary logs, reports, and registers, documenting any incidents or unusual activities.

Rule Enforcement: Uphold company security policies and procedures to prevent criminal activities.

Additional Duties: Handle department phone calls, texts, emails, and perform tasks according to Dis-Chem’s procedures.

Competencies & Skills:

Strong knowledge of PSIRA regulations and compliance
Fire emergency procedures and Health & Safety training
Excellent communication skills in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
Advantageous:
Proficiency in a 3rd language

Special Employment Conditions:

PSIRA registered (Grade C)
South African citizen
Clear criminal and credit record (verified via MIE)
Valid driver’s license, reliable transport, and PDP for driver deployments
