If you are hard-working, responsible, and ready to be part of a professional mining team, this opportunity could be the start of something big for you.

What the Role Is All About

As a Belt Attendant, your main job is to make sure the mine’s conveyor belts and related equipment work smoothly. You’ll assist in keeping the belts running efficiently by maintaining good housekeeping, preventing damage, and ensuring the equipment stays in top shape.

You will report directly to the Chargehand or their nominated supervisor. This role is vital in supporting daily mining operations and reducing downtime caused by breakdowns or blockages.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining belt equipment – Keep belts, idlers, rollers, and other conveyor parts in good condition to prevent breakdowns.
  • Good housekeeping – Always keep your work area clean and organized, ensuring all tools are safely stored and in good working condition.
  • Risk assessment – Identify potential hazards in your work area and report or fix them immediately.
  • Physical inspections – Regularly inspect the conveyor belts and take action to resolve or report issues before they cause damage.
  • Clearing blockages – Follow the proper lock-out procedure before removing any blockages and restart the belt safely once the area is clear.
  • Safety first – Always follow health and safety regulations as per the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996).

This position plays a crucial part in keeping production running efficiently while ensuring that safety standards are never compromised.

What You Need to Qualify

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine is looking for dependable and safety-conscious individuals who meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Grade 10 or Standard 8 Certificate.
  • Training: Completion of a relevant, approved training programme.
  • Experience: At least 3 months of exposure in a mining or belt environment will be an added advantage.
  • Skills: Ability to identify and report belt equipment faults, follow safety procedures, and perform basic physical inspections.
  • Attitude: A strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to follow instructions are essential.

If you have previous mining or mechanical experience, it will give you a solid advantage. However, even if you’re new, showing commitment and a strong sense of responsibility can open doors for you at Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine.
