The mine is located in Limpopo Province, approximately:

  • 60 km from Lydenburg
  • 40 km from Burgersfort

The successful candidate will report directly to the Miner or an appointed nominee.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before applying.

Educational Requirements

Candidates must have:

  • Grade 10 (Standard 8) Certificate
  • Valid Blasting Assistant Certificate

Applicants who do not meet these minimum qualifications may not be considered for the position.

Experience Required

To qualify for the role, applicants should have:

  • At least 1 year of practical underground mining experience

Examples of relevant experience include:

  • Pump Attendant
  • PTW (Persons Transport Worker)
  • Belt Attendant
  • Rock Breaker

Advantageous Experience

The following will give applicants an added advantage:

  • Six months of practical experience working as a Blasting Assistant

Although beneficial, this additional experience is not listed as a compulsory requirement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Blasting Assistant, you will support underground blasting operations while ensuring all work is completed safely and according to company procedures.

Your daily duties may include the following.

Preparing the Mining Face

Before drilling begins, you will assist with preparing the mining face by ensuring that the work area is ready for safe blasting operations.

Preparation work is important for improving efficiency and maintaining safety underground.

Handling Explosives

One of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving explosives from the mine magazine
  • Transporting explosives safely to the working section
  • Preparing explosives for blasting
  • Charging blast holes before blasting takes place

All explosives must be handled according to company procedures and safety regulations.

Assisting During Blasting Operations

You will assist with:

  • Clearing drill holes
  • Charging drill holes with explosives
  • Timing blast preparations
  • Connecting blasting systems under supervision

Accuracy and attention to detail are essential during every stage of the blasting process.

Maintaining Workplace Safety

Safety is one of the highest priorities in underground mining.

Successful applicants will be responsible for:

  • Creating a safe working area
  • Conducting early workplace examinations
  • Watering down areas after blasting
  • Inspecting mining faces
  • Cleaning work areas
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards

These tasks help reduce workplace risks and ensure safe mining operations.

Supporting Underground Mining Activities

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Washing sockets
  • Cleaning the mining face with a shovel
  • Marking geological features
  • Assisting with measurements

  • Treating misfires under supervision

You will also be expected to follow all current operating procedures throughout your daily work.
