Minimum Educational Requirements

To qualify for the Blasting Assistant (A3) role, you must have:

Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate.
Blasting Assistant Certificate.

Experience Required

Applicants must also have at least:

1 year of practical underground mining experience (for example, as a Pump Attendant, PTW, Belt Attendant, or Rock Breaker).
6 months of practical experience as a Blasting Assistant will be an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Blasting Assistant, your role will involve working closely with the Miner or nominee. Your key responsibilities will include:

Face preparation before drilling and handling explosives safely.
Transportation and charging of explosives prior to blasting.
Ensuring a safe working environment and practicing good housekeeping.
Conducting early examinations, socket washing, and face cleaning.
Assisting with measurements, geological marking, and direction lines.
Helping with timing, blast connections, and treatment of misfires under supervision.
Receiving, recording, and transporting explosives according to strict safety protocols.
Following all operating procedures to ensure safety and compliance with mining laws.
