Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Miner (C2) position, candidates must meet the following educational and licensing requirements:

  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate (minimum).
  • Certificate: Blasting for Scheduled Mines OR National Certificate: Hard Rock Underground.
  • Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.

Advantageous qualifications:

  • Competent A & B Certificates.
  • Blasting Assistant Certificate.

Experience Needed

  • At least 2 years of trackless mining experience.
  • Advantageous: 2 years of general mining experience.

This role is ideal for someone with proven underground experience who is ready to take on leadership responsibilities within a shift team.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Miner (C2) role is hands-on, demanding, and vital to the success of operations at Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring safe and effective blasting and mining activities during a shift.
  • Supervising team members while maintaining safe work practices.
  • Conducting continuous workplace inspections and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Testing for gases, checking ventilation, and evacuating teams when necessary.
  • Overseeing barring, watering down, and installation of both temporary and permanent support.
  • Managing drilling operations, including equipment preparation, roof bolt installations, and compliance with PPE standards.
  • Handling explosives responsibly, from collection to charging shot holes and managing misfires.
  • Maintaining proper housekeeping and storing of equipment.
  • Reporting incidents, accidents, and unsafe conditions to the Shift Overseer.
  • Ensuring that end-of-shift blasting procedures and documentation are completed accurately.
