Main Duties and Responsibilities

As an Econo Foods Shop Assistant, your daily responsibilities may include:

  • Greeting customers warmly as they enter the store.
  • Assisting customers in finding the products they need.
  • Recommending products based on customer preferences.
  • Explaining product features and benefits clearly.
  • Promoting current sales, discounts, and special offers.
  • Suggesting additional products through upselling techniques.
  • Building positive relationships with customers.
  • Answering customer questions professionally.
  • Resolving customer complaints quickly and politely.
  • Processing cash and card payments accurately using the Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Issuing receipts and handling refunds or exchanges according to company procedures.
  • Helping achieve daily and monthly sales targets.
  • Receiving and organising stock deliveries.
  • Assisting with stock ordering when required.
  • Keeping shelves neat, clean, and fully stocked.
  • Supporting visual merchandising to make products attractive to customers.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Previous experience as a Shop Assistant, General Worker, General Clerk, or General Assistant.
  • Live within 30 kilometres of the workplace.
  • Have a clear criminal record.

Meeting these minimum requirements allows your application to move forward during the recruitment process.

Preferred Qualifications

Although not compulsory, applicants with the following qualities may have an advantage:

  • South African citizenship.
  • EE/AA candidates.
  • Own reliable transport or a personal vehicle.
