What Does a Warehouse Operator Do?

Your main work will be picking loose cases and layers of products based on clear picking instructions. This means carefully selecting the right products, packing them properly, and counting items to make sure every order is accurate. Your role helps the warehouse run smoothly and ensures customers get the right products quickly.

Here are your key duties:

  • Accurately picking products according to instructions, both loose cases and layers
  • Packing and labeling items neatly, making sure everything is secure and meets quality standards
  • Counting and checking picked items to avoid mistakes in orders
  • Reporting any products that are out of stock or picked incorrectly
  • Using warehouse equipment efficiently to find and move products
  • Working with the inventory team to keep stock records accurate and report problems
  • Keeping the workspace clean and organized for safety and speed
  • Alerting supervisors about damaged goods or packaging issues
  • Attending training sessions to improve your skills and learn about warehouse procedures
  • Following company rules and safety guidelines, including using protective gear
  • Helping keep the warehouse a safe place to work
  • Joining team meetings and coaching sessions to support overall goals

What You Need to Qualify for the Job

To fit this role, you should have:

  • A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
  • At least 3 to 5 years’ experience doing a similar job, especially in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) retail
  • Good people skills and the ability to work well in a friendly team that values respect and cooperation
  • Confidence, helpfulness, and a humble attitude
  • Ability to work fast but carefully in a busy environment
  • Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy
