eMedia Intern: Workshop Assistant

Are you a hands-on problem solver who’s curious about how machines work? Do you want to kickstart your career in mechanics while working behind the scenes in South Africa’s top film production environment?

eMedia, in partnership with MICT SETA, is offering a 12-month paid internship programme for young South Africans who are passionate about mechanical work. The internship is hosted by Media Film Service (Pty) Ltd, and there are 2 internship spots available in Cape Town (Paarden Eiland).

What This Internship is All About

As a Workshop Assistant Intern, you’ll be part of a busy workshop that services generators, trucks, and high-end production equipment. You’ll learn practical skills while helping maintain some of the most advanced gear used in South Africa’s film industry.

This internship gives you real-world, hands-on experience in a fast-paced technical environment. You’ll learn how to work with mechanical systems, follow safety procedures, and be part of a team that keeps big productions running smoothly.


Where You’ll Be Working

Location:
📍 Paarden Eiland, Cape Town
Company: Media Film Service – the leading equipment supplier for the motion picture industry in South Africa.


What You’ll Be Doing (Your Daily Tasks)

🚚 Repairs and Maintenance

  • Help fix and service generators and trucks (under guidance).
  • Set up load testing using professional-grade equipment.
  • Keep tools and machines clean, safe, and ready for use.
  • Follow proper service routines, checklists, and workshop rules.
  • Learn how to track maintenance logs and report problems.

🧰 General Workshop Duties

  • Help with loading, dispatching, and receiving gear.
  • Organize and tidy tools and materials.
  • Make sure the workshop is always clean and safe to work in.

🤝 Teamwork and Support

  • Build strong working relationships with your teammates.
  • Work closely with experienced technicians who will mentor you.
  • Learn how to communicate clearly and stay focused on shared goals.

What You Need to Apply

This internship is designed for young South Africans who are serious about starting a career in mechanics or engineering.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Matric / National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) – Must have it.
  • Diploma in Engineering, Mechanics, or Diesel Mechanics (NQF Level 6) – Essential.

  • Basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Good English reading and writing skills.
  • Sharp attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a technical environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work well with others.

🇿🇦 Additional Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be under the age of 35.
  • You can’t have done a SETA-funded internship before.
