What Is the Eskom Utilityman Job?

You’ll carry, lift, push, and assist with setting up tools, cables, and heavy materials at various sites. This isn’t office work—it’s physical, hands-on, and important for keeping South Africa’s electricity running.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

If you’re hired as a Utilityman, your work will include:

  • Carrying and setting up construction materials and equipment
  • Using tools (both hand and power tools) safely
  • Helping technical workers with tasks like laying and testing cables
  • Making sure tools and materials are stored correctly after use
  • Cleaning up the worksite and keeping it safe and organized
  • Following all safety and health guidelines at all times
  • Being an active team member in meetings and safety briefings

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric certificate)
  • 1–2 years of experience in any technical or construction-related job
  • Experience working on substation or energy sites is a big plus
  • Ability to lift heavy items and work outdoors in all kinds of weather
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
