Eskom Is Hiring 35 Engineering Trainees – Here’s Your Chance to Join South Africa’s Power Giant

Eskom invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their 2025 Engineers in Training (EIT) Programme. A total of 35 positions are open. The closing date for applications is 25 July 2025.

If you’re a recent graduate looking to start your engineering career, this could be your big break. Eskom, South Africa’s biggest electricity supplier, is looking for 35 bright and motivated young people to join their Engineers in Training Programme for 2025. Whether you’re into electrical or civil engineering, this is your shot to work with the team that powers the nation.

This is not just any internship. It’s a full-time, paid traineeship that gives you real hands-on experience in one of the most important sectors in South Africa. Eskom wants to help grow the next generation of engineers, and you could be one of them.

What’s This Programme All About?

The Engineers in Training (EIT) Programme is designed to help young graduates turn their degrees into real careers. You’ll be trained by experts, get involved in major projects, and see how engineering works in real life – not just in textbooks.

This programme focuses on helping you develop the skills you need in the workplace. It includes technical training, personal development, leadership training, and lots of practical, on-the-job learning. You’ll rotate through different departments, gaining experience in various areas to help you figure out where you fit best.

Who Can Apply?

Eskom is looking for graduates who meet these requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed one of these degrees:
    • Bachelor of Engineering (B Eng.) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical Engineering – 34 spots available
    • Bachelor of Engineering (B Eng.) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering – 1 spot available
  • You must speak and write English well
  • You must be available to join the full training programme

This opportunity is perfect if you’ve just finished your degree and want to get real-world experience in a top company.

What Will You Be Doing?

While you won’t have a fixed job role right away, you’ll be learning and contributing from day one. Here’s what’s expected of you:

  • Take part in training sessions and hands-on work
  • Use what you learned in university to solve real problems
  • Work with experienced professionals and learn from them
  • Follow Eskom’s safety rules and always stay professional
  • Be a team player and show that you’re serious about your future

You’ll get to see what it’s really like working in engineering, helping with real projects that affect millions of people.

What Kind of Person Is Eskom Looking For?

They’re not just looking at your grades. They want people who are ready to grow, learn, and work hard. Here are some of the qualities they’re looking for:

  • Good at problem-solving and thinking clearly
  • Can work well with others and communicate clearly
  • Willing to learn, even when it’s tough
  • Understand the importance of safety and responsibility
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Able to handle pressure and stay focused

If this sounds like you, you’ve already got what it takes to apply.

Why This Is a Big Deal

Getting into Eskom’s EIT Programme means starting your career at the top. You’ll be part of a team that keeps South Africa running. And after finishing the programme, you’ll be better prepared than ever to take on full-time engineering roles – either at Eskom or elsewhere.

This is more than just a job. It’s your chance to be part of something bigger, helping to shape the future of energy in South Africa.

Eskom is committed to giving everyone a fair shot. They encourage people from all backgrounds to apply, especially if you come from a previously disadvantaged group. They also support people living with disabilities.

What You Need to Apply

Before the deadline on 25 July 2025, make sure you have these documents ready:

  • Your latest CV (make it sharp and professional)
  • Certified copies of your academic results and degree
  • A certified copy of your South African ID
  • A short cover letter explaining why you want this opportunity and what makes you a good fit

Remember: Late or incomplete applications won’t be accepted. If you don’t hear back within 28 days after the closing date, your application was not successful.
