What You Will Be Doing as a Room Attendant

As a Room Attendant at Addo Elephant National Park, your main job will be to make sure the chalets and public areas are clean and neat for visitors. This means you’ll handle tasks like:

  • Changing bed linen and making beds.
  • Sweeping, mopping floors, and polishing furniture.
  • Emptying trash bins and keeping the spaces fresh.
  • Cleaning bathrooms, admin offices, and reception areas to the highest standards.
  • Reporting any problems such as broken items, shortages of supplies, or maintenance needs.
  • Controlling and counting inventory to ensure everything is stocked correctly.
  • Managing keys securely and reporting lost and found items.
  • Helping with laundry work and doing monthly stock checks on linens and cleaning materials.
  • Ensuring safety rules are followed by applying Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices.
  • Managing visitor parking and guiding traffic flow within the park.
  • Taking on extra jobs as directed by your supervisor.
  • Assisting guests by answering simple questions politely, although guest interaction will be limited.

Where You Will Work

This role is based in the stunning Addo Elephant National Park, which is a beautiful nature reserve in South Africa. Please note that the park does not have staff accommodation, so you will need to arrange your own transport and place to stay.

What You Need to Qualify for This Job

To apply for one of these vacancies, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a Grade 12 certificate (also known as Std 10) or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 1 to 2 years of housekeeping experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the tourism industry.
  • Speak two languages well, and one must be English.
  • Understand Occupational Health and Safety rules.
  • Be skilled in time management and organizing your work.
  • Have good communication skills to work well with your team and guests.
  • Be willing to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays if your supervisor asks.
  • Know how to safely use cleaning chemicals.

Extra Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

If you have any of these, it will be a bonus:

  • An Occupational Health and Safety certificate.
  • A First Aid level 1 certificate.
  • A housekeeping certificate.
