A Junior Firefighter supports senior firefighters during emergency and non-emergency situations. You will learn on the job while being guided by supervisors and officers in charge.
You will respond to fire incidents, rescue calls, and other emergencies. This includes helping to control fires, rescue trapped people, and make areas safe. You may also respond to incidents involving dangerous chemicals or hazardous materials.
You will help remove injured people from unsafe areas and provide basic medical care until further help arrives. This may include resuscitation, first aid, and emergency treatment under supervision.
You will operate hoses, pumps, ladders, and other firefighting tools. You will also learn how to maintain and clean equipment so it is always ready for the next emergency.
Training is a big part of this job. You will take part in drills, practice exercises, and physical fitness sessions to keep your body strong and your skills sharp. You may also help train other employees in fire safety and emergency response.
You will help inspect buildings and workplaces to make sure safety rules are followed. You will also complete reports and logs using computer systems to record daily activities and incidents.
If qualified, you may drive or assist in operating fire trucks and heavy emergency vehicles during incidents. You will also use machines to access buildings, lift equipment, or rescue victims when needed.
This job requires courage, discipline, and responsibility. You must be ready to act fast and stay calm under pressure.
