Job Position: Armed Response Officer (Durban)

Where is the job based?

This Armed Response Officer position is based at:

  • G4S offices in Durban

Durban is a busy city, and response services are important because alarms and incidents can happen at any time. That’s why G4S needs trained and reliable response officers who can handle real emergencies.

What This Job Is About

An Armed Response Officer is responsible for responding to alarm activations and security emergencies. This includes patrolling, safeguarding, escorting, and protecting assets.

This is not a job where you sit still. It requires active work, quick response, strong awareness, and good discipline. Armed Response Officers are often the first people to arrive on scene, meaning your decisions and actions matter a lot.

Key Responsibilities (What You Will Be Doing)

G4S listed key responsibilities clearly. These tasks will be part of your daily work:

Reaction to Alarm Conditions

This is a core duty. You will:

  • respond quickly when alarms are triggered
  • investigate the situation on site
  • take action based on safety procedures

Active Patrolling and Intelligence Gathering

You will be expected to:

  • patrol assigned areas regularly
  • observe suspicious activity
  • gather useful information that supports prevention and safety

Safeguarding

You will:

  • secure and protect locations
  • prevent loss or damage
  • ensure safety for clients and property

Armed Escorts and Protection (When Needed)

You may be required to provide:

  • armed escort services
  • personal protection duties
  • secure movement of assets

This requires responsibility and strict firearm discipline.

Report Writing

Security work is not complete without good reporting. You will:

  • write incident reports
  • record details accurately
  • support investigations with clear written information

Protection of Clients and Assets

Your role includes:

  • protecting clients
  • securing important property and assets
  • preventing theft, burglary, and harm

Monitoring Radio and Communication Channels

You must:

  • monitor radio channels
  • communicate clearly with control rooms or supervisors
  • respond quickly to instructions

Good communication can stop situations from becoming worse.

Minimum Requirements (Compulsory)

This section is serious because G4S made it clear that some qualifications are not negotiable.

PSIRA Grade A Response Registration (Compulsory)

You must be:

  • PSIRA registered (Grade A Response Security Officer)

This is required to work legally in armed response.

Matric / Grade 12 Certificate (Compulsory)

You must have:

  • Matric (Grade 12)

Reaction Certificate (Non-Negotiable)

You must have:

  • Reaction Certificate

This is one of the most important documents in response work, and G4S will not accept candidates without it.

Driving Experience (Non-Negotiable)

You must have:

  • 3–5 years driving experience

This makes sense because response work depends on safe, skilled driving. Poor driving can put you and others at risk.

5 Years Commercial Driving Experience

You must also have:

  • 5 years commercial driving experience

This shows you have a professional driving background, not just personal vehicle driving.

Handgun Business Purpose Certificate (Statement of Results)

You must have:

  • Handgun Business Purpose Certificate (Statement of Results)

This helps prove you are trained for firearm use related to work purposes.

Valid SAPS Competency

You must have:

  • SAPS Competency (valid)

Without SAPS competency, you cannot legally be armed for duty.

Who Should Apply for This Job?

This job is best for applicants who are:

  • disciplined and alert
  • physically fit and mentally strong
  • serious about safety and protection
  • able to work long shifts and stay focused
  • good at handling pressure
  • responsible with firearms and security rules
  • confident in communication and report writing

Working for G4S can be a big advantage because:

  • it’s a well-known global security company
  • armed response experience strengthens your CV
  • you gain exposure to high-level security operations
  • you develop important skills like patrolling, protection and intelligence gathering
