What You Will Be Doing As An Assistant Buyer
As the Assistant Buyer for Kidswear, you’ll be a key support person who helps make sure that the right clothes get into the stores at the right time. You’ll work closely with the Buyers, Suppliers, and many teams inside Jet to keep things running smoothly. Some of your daily tasks include:
- Helping with all paperwork and administrative work needed for buying.
- Placing orders quickly and correctly into the purchasing system.
- Keeping the sample room tidy, organized, and up to date.
- Managing spreadsheets and reports to track stock and performance.
- Checking samples for quality control and keeping audit records.
- Preparing samples and documents for presentations and product meetings.
- Loading products correctly into the Jet and TFG computer systems.
- Building strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Gathering information from suppliers to help load new products.
- Processing changes and communicating updates to the right teams.
- Helping customer service teams with product-related questions or problems.
- Managing orders and making sure they move smoothly through the critical path.
- Pulling reports for incoming stock and managing keep samples.
- Coordinating between retail and production teams for sample processes.
- Preparing items for quarterly SWOT presentations.
- Conducting competitive shopping trips (comp shops) to study market trends.
- Pulling samples or images for weekly sales reports or as requested.
- Assisting Buyers with placing new orders.
- Maintaining stock levels in the retail sample room.
- Assisting with QA (Quality Assurance) samples and checks.
In simple terms, you will make sure the buying process works well so that Jet stores are fully stocked with fashionable, high-quality kidswear.
What You Need To Apply

Education
- Matric (Grade 12), Higher Certificate or Diploma.
Experience
- Buying Admin experience required.
- Previous work as an Assistant Buyer or in a similar role will be a big advantage.
- Experience or understanding of the clothing retail cycle and buying process.
- Comfortable using computers, especially Excel, Word, and Email.
Skills
- Highly organized and great at managing tasks.
- Able to analyze situations and create strong plans.
- Able to build good working relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
- Aware of market trends and able to use that knowledge in daily work.
- Strong numeracy skills and excellent attention to detail.
