Do you dream of wearing the uniform, protecting your community, and building a future in law enforcement? The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is now accepting applications for their 2025 Metro Police Training Intake. This 18-month training opportunity is open to young South Africans who are ready to step into a professional role, gain law enforcement skills, and get paid while training. Don’t miss this chance to kickstart your future. Applications close on 8 July 2025, so act fast.

What’s This Opportunity About?

The JMPD Metro Police Training Programme is a full-time, 18-month course that gives young people the chance to become trained Metro Police Officers. This programme is part of the City of Johannesburg’s plan to fight crime, improve safety, and reduce youth unemployment.

If you’re between the ages of 18 and 35, physically fit, and serious about making a difference in your community, this might be your chance. You’ll be trained in physical fitness, classroom lessons, and on-the-job fieldwork.

By the end of the programme, if you pass all the requirements, you can be appointed as a full-time Metro Police Officer. It’s not just about wearing a uniform — it’s about starting a career that matters.

What You’ll Do During the Training

For the full 18 months, you’ll train at the JMPD Training Academy, where you’ll follow a strict training plan. This includes:

  • Physical fitness training
  • Law and justice theory lessons
  • Real-life policing practice in the field

You’ll also get a monthly stipend (payment) while you’re training — so you can focus on your future without worrying too much about money.

If you finish the programme successfully, you’ll take an oath of office and be ready to start work in any part of Johannesburg. The City is looking for people who are honest, disciplined, mentally and physically strong, and truly passionate about public safety.

Before applying, check if you meet all the requirements:

  • You need to be physically and mentally fit (with a medical certificate)
  • You must be able to pass a fitness test
  • You need to have no criminal record and be ready to go through background checks
  • You should be okay with carrying a firearm and wearing a uniform
  • You must be able to speak and understand English well
  • You should have no civil judgments for fraud or corruption

What Personal Qualities Do They Want?

  • Reliable and responsible
  • Honest and fair
  • Hardworking and able to work in any weather
  • Able to handle pressure and long hours
  • Ready to work shifts and be part of a team

What Happens After the Training?

If you complete the training successfully:

  • You’ll begin a career in professional law enforcement
