Working as a Field Guide at Kruger National Park is more than just a job — it’s a lifestyle. Key Responsibilities You Will Handle

As a Field Guide, you will take on several important duties to ensure guests have safe, educational, and memorable experiences. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Leading basic and intermediate guided activities for visitors at the camp or gate.
  • In the absence of the Senior Field Guide, planning and organizing guided activities to keep daily operations running smoothly.
  • Handling administration related to guided activities at the camp.
  • Actively promoting and marketing guided activities to increase visitor participation and boost revenue.
  • Presenting environmental talks and guided tours to raise awareness about conservation and help build a culture of sustainability.

Minimum Requirements to Apply

To qualify for this job, you must meet all the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • THETA Nature Site Guide Certificate (Dangerous Game Area) with code TGD/NSGDGM/4/0037 and NGF Level 2 (this must include the “View Potentially Dangerous Game” Unit Standards).
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (Level 1 or Level 2 preferred).
  • Valid DEAT Registration Card (for Site Guide: KNP & surrounding areas).
  • Valid C1 Driver’s License (Code 10).
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Certification in SASSETA Unit Standards 123519, 119651 & 117705.
  • SAPS Firearm Competency Certificate or proof of application issued by the SAPS.
  • At least 1 year of experience related to conservation or guided activities.

Skills and Personal Qualities Needed

  • A deep passion for nature, conservation, and wildlife.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage and educate guests.
  • Ability to work independently and organize daily schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to handle unexpected situations.
  • High level of professionalism and responsibility, especially when leading dangerous game drives.
  • Ability to create a fun, safe, and educational experience for guests.
  • Attention to detail and strong administrative skills for managing bookings and records.
  • A friendly, welcoming attitude with a customer service mindset.
