This role is based at the LHC KZN Laundry in Pinetown, and successful candidates will report directly to the Laundry Manager. The main goal is to help maintain, process, and supply clean linen to Life Healthcare hospitals in the region.


About the Role: What You’ll Be Doing

This job is hands-on and requires someone who can manage linen carefully, follow strict procedures, and work under pressure. Laundry assistants play an important part in healthcare because hospitals rely on clean linen for patients, staff, and ward operations.


Critical Outputs (Main Duties & Responsibilities)

Below are the key tasks you’ll be responsible for in this role:

## 1. Counting and Sorting Linen

You will:

  • Count linen items accurately
  • Sort linen according to types and categories
  • Ensure correct handling procedures are followed

Good counting is very important because hospitals need correct linen control.


## 2. Accurate Record Keeping

You will be expected to:

  • Record linen items according to standard procedures
  • Capture correct figures on templates
  • Maintain accuracy at all times

This helps with stock control and reducing losses.


## 3. Linen Processing in Designated Areas

You will:

  • Process linen in the right sections of the laundry facility
  • Follow processing procedures for different linen types

This may include washing, drying, folding, and preparing linen for delivery.


## 4. Operating Industrial Laundry Equipment

You will operate:

  • Industrial washing machines
  • Dryers
  • Other laundry processing equipment

You must follow standard procedures when using equipment to prevent damage and ensure safety.


## 5. Quality Checking Linen Output

Life Healthcare expects high standards.

You must ensure linen output is:

  • Dry
  • Soft
  • Clean
  • Unstained
  • Professionally presented

Quality linen is important for patient comfort and hygiene.


## 6. Quality and Stock Management

You will assist in:

  • Managing linen stock levels
  • Ensuring linen is not wasted or damaged
  • Supporting quality control procedures

## 7. Maintaining Housekeeping and Clean Work Areas

You must:

  • Keep your work area tidy
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards
  • Ensure waste is managed properly

## 8. Health and Safety Compliance

Laundry environments involve machines, heat, chemicals, and movement.

You will be required to:

  • Follow health and safety rules
  • Use equipment safely
  • Maintain clean work practices
  • Support a safe working environment

## 9. Waste Disposal Management

You will assist with:

  • Correct disposal of waste
  • Following procedures for hygiene and cleanliness

Requirements (Minimum Requirements to Apply)

To qualify, you must meet the requirements listed by Life Healthcare.

## Education

Grade 12 certificate or equivalent


## Driver’s License Requirement (Important!)

Valid Code 10 Driver’s License

PDP is a pre-requisite (meaning you may need it for the role)

This is a key requirement and may be used for transport or deliveries.


## Language

You must:

  • Understand, speak, read and write English

## Skills and Abilities Needed

You must be able to:

  • Count accurately
  • Do sewing and mending of linen
  • Capture figures correctly (record keeping)
  • Work flexible hours
  • Work under pressure/stressful conditions
  • Maintain good interpersonal relations
  • Maintain good hygiene and neat appearance
