MSI Invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Coded Welding & Steel Fabrication Training & Business Incubation Programme (25 Posts). The closing date for applications is 12 December 2025.

A Powerful Opportunity for Young People Who Want Real Skills and Real Income

If you live in Mpumalanga and have ever dreamed of working with your hands, building real things, and earning money from practical skills, this could be the chance that changes your life. The Mpumalanga Stainless Initiative (MSI) has opened applications for the Coded Welding & Steel Fabrication Training & Incubation Programme 2025/2026, a fully funded 12-month programme designed to help young people learn valuable trade skills and even start their own businesses in the steel and welding industry.

This is not just another short course or random workshop. It is a serious, focused, and professionally supported programme that teaches you how to become a skilled welder and steel fabricator, while also showing you how to turn those skills into a real business. If you are between the ages of 15 and 35 and live in Mpumalanga, this opportunity was created with you in mind.

Welding is one of the most in-demand skills in South Africa right now. Big companies, factories, construction projects, and even small businesses are always looking for trained welders. That means jobs, contracts, and income opportunities are much easier to find if you have the right training. This programme gives you exactly that.

Who Is Behind This Life-Changing Programme?

The programme is led by the Mpumalanga Stainless Initiative (MSI) in partnership with Nkangala TVET College and the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT).

About Mpumalanga Stainless Initiative (MSI)

MSI is known for helping young people and small businesses grow in the stainless steel and manufacturing sector. They provide training, equipment, workspaces, and support to upcoming artisans and entrepreneurs. They work with the government and the private sector to open doors for people who would normally not have access to these opportunities.

About Nkangala TVET College

Nkangala TVET College is one of the top technical and vocational colleges in Mpumalanga. They specialise in engineering and practical careers that match what the country actually needs. Their experience makes sure that this programme meets real industry standards.

About the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT)

This department supports small businesses, skills development, tourism, and job creation in Mpumalanga. Their involvement makes this programme even stronger, as it is backed by government support and funding.

Together, these partners have created a programme that focuses on real change and real economic growth.

What This Welding and Steel Fabrication Programme Really Offers

This is a 12-month journey that takes you from beginner to skilled worker and future entrepreneur.

First Phase: Coded Welding & Steel Fabrication Training (6 Months)

During the first part of the programme, you will be trained in real, hands-on welding and steel fabrication skills. You will learn things like:

  • Different types of coded welding processes
  • How to cut, shape, and join steel safely
  • Reading basic steel drawings
  • Using welding tools and machines correctly
  • Understanding safety rules in a workshop
  • Fabrication techniques used in big industries

This training is fully accredited and recognised in South Africa. That means your certificate will actually mean something when you apply for jobs or contracts.

Second Phase: Business Incubation & Mentorship

The second part of the programme focuses on helping you become a business owner if that is your dream. You will learn:

  • How to start a small welding or steel business
  • How to price your work and make profit
  • How to find customers and markets
  • How to manage money
  • How to grow your company step by step

You will also get support from mentors who understand the industry. These are people who have real experience and will guide you through your journey.

Company Registration Support

MSI does not just teach you skills and leave you alone. They also help you with important things like:

  • Registering your business with CIPC
  • Getting registered for SARS tax
  • Applying for COIDA
  • Registering on the CSD (Central Supplier Database)

These registrations are very important because they allow you to apply for tenders and contracts from both government and private companies in the future.

Access to Industrial Facilities

Participants in this programme will get access to:

  • Industrial workshop spaces
  • Steel fabrication equipment
  • Professional tools
  • Business development support

This is a huge advantage because most young people cannot afford these machines on their own.

Monthly Stipend and Support

While you are training, you will receive a monthly stipend to help with basic needs like transport and food. Your training materials are also covered. This is why the programme is described as fully funded.

Only 25 Spaces Available – Apply Early

There are only 25 positions available for this programme. This means competition will be high. Preference will be given to:

  • Young people
  • Women
  • Township-based entrepreneurs
  • Previously disadvantaged individuals

If this sounds like you, do not wait until the last minute. Prepare your documents and apply as soon as possible.

Minimum Requirements You Must Meet

To apply, you must:

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 35 years
  • Be a South African citizen living in Mpumalanga
  • Have Grade 9 with Mathematics and Science
  • Be willing to commit to the full 12 months

Even if you do not have high qualifications, you can still apply. What matters most is your willingness to learn and work hard.

Added Advantage

You may have a better chance if you have:

  • N2 Certificate with Plater/Structural Steel Drawing OR
  • NCV Level 3 (with 7 subjects passed) OR
