Netcare Opens Pharmacist Internship 2025/2026 – Your Chance to Start a Real Hospital Pharmacy Career

Netcare invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the Pharmacist Internship 2025/2026 at St Augustine’s Hospital. This is a full-time training opportunity for B.Pharm graduates, and applications are now open. If you want to start your career in a real hospital environment, this programme is designed to help you grow fast.

A Life-Changing Opportunity for Future Pharmacists

Many young pharmacy graduates struggle to get real work experience. Netcare, one of South Africa’s most trusted private healthcare groups, is giving you a chance to learn directly inside a hospital pharmacy. The group is known for its strong values such as Care, Truth, Participation, Compassion, and Dignity. This internship helps you build both confidence and skills while supporting patients and medical teams.

At St Augustine’s Hospital, interns work with experienced pharmacists, gain practical knowledge, and become part of a team that focuses on safe, effective patient care. If you want to become a professional pharmacist with strong hospital experience, this programme can help you reach that goal.

What You Will Learn During the Internship

The Netcare Pharmacist Internship covers many areas of pharmacy, from patient support to stock control. You will rotate through clinical, operational, and administrative sections of the pharmacy. This helps you understand how a hospital pharmacy works from start to finish.

Supporting Patients and Healthcare Staff

Interns work closely with patients, nurses, and doctors. You will learn how to explain the correct use of medications, including dosage, side effects, and safe storage. You will also assist with giving advice on basic health, family planning, mother and child care, immunisation, and general wellness support.

This helps you gain strong communication skills and confidence when dealing with different people.

Dispensing and Preparing Medication

You will work under supervision in both hospital and retail pharmacy settings.

Your duties include:

  • Dispensing prescriptions safely and accurately
  • Assisting with oncology medication preparation
  • Handling Schedule 1–6 medicines
  • Helping with compounding and repackaging non-sterile and sterile items
  • Supporting cost-saving practices like generic substitution and monitoring treatment duration

These responsibilities will train you to handle complex medication processes with care.

Stock Control and Logistics

A hospital pharmacy depends on good stock management. Interns learn how to order, store, and issue medication responsibly. You will assist with:

  • Stock counts
  • Inventory audits
  • Communication with wards and doctors
  • Ensuring there are always alternatives when medicine is out of stock

These skills are important for future pharmacists because stock errors can affect patient safety.

Clinical Exposure and Research Support

This internship gives you real clinical experience. You will be involved in ward rounds, answer clinical questions, and use drug information tools to assist with patient treatment plans.

You will also work with specialised medication often used in:

  • Oncology
  • Renal transplants
  • Emergency care

This gives you exposure that many community pharmacy jobs cannot offer.

Safety, Quality, and Legal Compliance

Netcare focuses strongly on safe pharmacy practices. You will be trained to follow South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) rules and hospital quality standards. Interns become part of team-based projects that improve patient safety and reduce risks.

This prepares you for professional pharmacist registration later on.

Growing Your Career with Netcare

The internship is not just about technical training. Netcare helps you grow personally and professionally. You will learn how to work with teams, communicate clearly, manage your time, and deal with pressure.

You will also be exposed to updated clinical guidelines, new policies, and modern pharmacy systems. By the end of the internship, you will have the experience needed to enter the pharmacy profession with confidence.

Who Should Apply?

This training is suitable for B.Pharm graduates who want hospital-based experience and are serious about building a solid career in pharmacy. If you have a passion for patient care, accuracy, learning, and working in a busy healthcare environment, you are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the official Netcare career platform. Prepare your documents carefully before applying. These usually include:

  • Updated CV
  • Academic transcripts
  • Certified copies of qualifications
  • ID document

Once you submit your application, keep checking your email in case Netcare contacts you for assessments or further steps.
