Northam Eland Platinum Mine invites suitably qualified South Africans to apply for their 2026 Learnership and Internship opportunities. These programmes offer several posts across different fields, and the closing date for applications is 14 December 2025. If you have been searching for a real chance to build a future in the mining industry, this might be the opening you have been waiting for.
Many young people dream of entering the mining world but struggle to find a place where they can learn, gain experience, and actually grow. Northam Eland Platinum Mine, located in the North West Province near Brits, Hartbeespoort, and Pretoria, is opening its doors to help the next generation gain proper skills. The mine is part of Northam Platinum Limited, a well-known company in the mining sector that believes in long-term development and real career-building.
The learnerships and internships offered for 2026 are designed to give you practical experience, real training, and strong technical knowledge that can open many doors in the future. You don’t just learn the theory—you actually work on real tasks inside a working mine with experts guiding you.
The learnerships run for three years. During this time, you will attend classes and complete workplace training. Your goal is to work towards becoming a fully competent artisan in your chosen trade. These trades may include diesel mechanic, electrical, welding/plater, and more depending on the available slots.
The internship programme is a one-year opportunity for graduates who want hands-on experience in engineering, mining, geology, and ventilation. Interns support technical teams, assist with real projects, and gain the type of training employers look for when hiring.
You can expect to learn from experienced mentors, follow set training plans, and build the kind of confidence needed to grow in a tough industry. Previous participants earned stipends in the region of R6,500 to R8,500 per month depending on the programme.
To be considered for the learnerships, you must meet at least one of the following academic paths:
On top of that, you must have at least 40 percent in the relevant subjects and a clean behaviour and attendance record. Only applicants who can provide a Medical Certificate of Fitness will be accepted. You must also meet the Employment Equity guidelines of the company.
The internships require:
The mine is looking for young people who are serious about their future. This means you should show good technical ability, be comfortable working with others in team environments, and be willing to learn fast. Mining is a demanding space, so you must be ready to follow safety rules and stay focused at all times. Good communication skills also make a big difference.
Northam Platinum Limited strongly supports fairness, diversity, and transformation. They want to develop skills among historically disadvantaged South Africans and also encourage more women to enter mining and engineering roles. Both internal and external applicants are welcome, and the recruitment process follows strict fairness rules.
