What Does an Assistant Store Manager Do?

As an Assistant Store Manager, you’ll be the right hand of the Store Manager. That means you’ll be in charge when they’re not around and help with running the store smoothly every day.

Here’s a breakdown of your main tasks:

• Manage Cash and Banking: You’ll be responsible for handling money safely and making sure everything balances at the end of the day.
• Step in for the Store Manager: If the store manager is away, you’ll take over. That means making sure the store runs just as well in their absence.
• Maintain Standards: You’ll help keep the store clean, organized, and visually appealing to customers.
• Stock Loss Control: Make sure stock is managed correctly and prevent any losses or theft.
• Discipline and Security: Help enforce company rules and ensure the store stays safe for everyone.
• Follow Company Rules: All operations must follow the company’s policies and procedures.
• Help Manage the Team: You’ll assist in managing staff, making schedules, handling disputes, and helping the team stay motivated.
• Monitor Front-End Activities: Ensure tills and front-of-house operations are running smoothly.
• Oversee Cash Office: You’ll keep an eye on financial records, ensuring everything is accounted for.
• Improve Customer Service: Ensure every customer leaves the store happy and with what they came for.

What You Need to Apply

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric / Grade 12 (Mathematics is a plus) or NQF Level 4
• Experience leading people in a work environment
• Retail experience, especially in clothing, will help a lot
• Strong communication skills – written and spoken
• Good at admin tasks – You’ll be managing documents and reports
• Able to make decisions quickly and confidently
• Organized and good at planning – From staff schedules to store operations
• Strong leadership qualities
• Energetic and Enthusiastic
• Honest and full of integrity
• Self-motivated and proactive
