The City of Johannesburg Invites Qualified Youth to Apply for Their 2025 Administration Internship Programme. The Closing Date for Applications Is 1 July 2025.

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is now accepting applications for its Administration Internship Programme in the Group Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) Department.

This is a 18-month full-time internship designed to help you build your career while gaining vital skills in service delivery, stakeholder communication, and public administration. If you’ve completed a qualification in Public Administration, PR, Business, or a related field, this is your opportunity to step into a real work environment with no previous experience required.

What’s the Internship All About?

This internship is focused on training young people to understand how city management and service delivery work. You’ll be working in the Stakeholder Interface Unit, helping improve how residents and the government work together.

Who Can Apply?

You need to meet all of these requirements:

  • Live in the City of Johannesburg
  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have Grade 12 / Matric
  • Have a National Diploma or Degree in one of the following fields:
    • Public Administration
    • Business Administration
    • Public Relations
    • Journalism
    • International Relations
    • Marketing and Communications
    • Or a similar qualification (minimum 360 credits)
  • Know how to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must not have done an internship for the same qualification before

If you don’t meet all of these criteria, your application might not be considered. So check carefully before applying.


What You’ll Be Doing

Your role will be mostly office-based, and you’ll get to assist the department in a variety of important tasks:

  • Handle general admin work in the Stakeholder Interface Unit
  • Help with coordinating service delivery activities
  • Support in community and stakeholder engagement events
  • Assist in gathering and reporting information
  • Help with internal communication and documentation

It’s a great chance to learn how a big city department works and be part of something meaningful.


Skills and Qualities They’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you should be:

  • Computer literate and confident with Microsoft Office
  • Good at communicating — both writing and speaking clearly
  • Able to plan and stay organized
  • Respectful, ethical, and able to make good decisions
  • A team player who pays attention to detail
  • Familiar with Batho Pele Principles (basic values for public service)
