What Is Rand Water’s Graduate Development Programme?

The Rand Water Graduate Development Programme is designed to grow the next generation of skilled professionals in the water industry. It focuses on building the skills that South Africa needs to protect, manage, and improve our water systems. Over the two-year program, you’ll be trained, mentored, and given the chance to work on real projects.

Graduates in this program will get valuable experience through:

  • Fieldwork and lab training
  • Digital tools and innovation practices
  • Working alongside experienced professionals

You’ll also be trained to understand how water systems work, how to solve problems, and how to use the latest technology to improve water services in South Africa.

What You’ll Learn and Do

  • Freshwater Aquatic Sciences
  • Water Technology

  • Digital Technology and Innovation

Through this, you’ll gain a solid understanding of how South Africa’s water system works and how engineers play a critical role in keeping water safe, clean, and flowing.

You’ll also learn how to:

  • Communicate effectively in teams and across departments
  • Manage your time and stay organized
  • Write clear reports and give professional presentations
  • Think critically and solve complex problems
  • Use digital tools for research and analysis
  • Show leadership in environmental projects

Who Can Apply?

To apply, you must:

  • Have a Master’s degree (MEng or MSc) in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID
  • Be under 35 years old
  • Have no previous job experience in your field
  • Have a driver’s license (this is a bonus, not a must)

  • A full and updated CV
  • Certified copies of your degree certificates
  • Academic transcripts or statement of results
  • A certified copy of your South African ID
  • A certified copy of your driver’s license (if you have one)
