SANParks Data Capturer Vacancies (X3 Posts)

These positions are based at Table Mountain National Park, and successful applicants will report directly to the relevant Line Manager. Applicants should note that the park does not provide staff accommodation, so candidates must arrange their own housing if appointed.

Location and Work Setting

The positions are based within Table Mountain National Park. The environment is dynamic, with many projects and operations that require accurate data capturing and information processing. Successful candidates will assist various teams, including law enforcement, monitoring units, and general operations.

Minimum Requirements Needed

To apply for these positions, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or NCV Level 4
  • At least 1–2 years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of legislation related to the environmental and protected area sector, including:
    • National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act
    • National Heritage Resources Act
    • Biodiversity Act
    • Integrated Coastal Management Act
    • Marine Living Resources Act
    • Criminal Procedure Act
    • PFMA
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Clear criminal record
  • Willingness to undergo polygraph testing
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Analytical thinking and technical accuracy
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required

Advantages That Can Strengthen Your Application

While not required, applicants will stand out if they have:

  • Environmental Management Inspector designation
  • Experience with ArcGIS or QGIS mapping software
  • A valid Code 8 driver’s license

What You Will Be Doing in This Role

Data Capturers play a key part in providing accurate and timely information to guide operations inside the National Park. Duties include:

Capturing and Managing Information

  • Entering data from different reporting sources into systems such as Cmore
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping for environmental and enforcement activities
  • Monitoring live digital feeds in the Operations Room

Supporting Law Enforcement and Operations

  • Assisting with data analysis for proactive and reactive enforcement planning
  • Helping relay information received from the public or internal systems to operators
  • Supporting deployment and logistics planning for SEAM Teams when required

Reporting and Administrative Duties

  • Providing administrative support, including procurement duties when needed
  • Supporting operational control processes in line with safety and security standards
  • Helping with compiling reporting and managing documentation

Training and Team Support

  • Assisting with internal training activities when requested
  • Working closely with internal and external operational stakeholders

This role requires focus, the ability to handle sensitive information, and the responsibility to ensure data is processed correctly and on time.

Salary and Contract Details

The position offers a basic salary aligned with a Paterson B3 grading. Additional benefits and allowances are included as per SANParks Conditions of Service. Since this is a fixed-term contract of six months, candidates should be prepared to contribute as soon as they are appointed and work efficiently within the operational schedule of Table Mountain National Park.
