SANParks Is Hiring an Assistant Section Ranger

What Does an Assistant Section Ranger Do?

The Assistant Section Ranger helps support conservation activities inside the park. The role involves protecting wildlife, maintaining park operations, supporting field ranger teams, and helping ensure visitor safety.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys outdoor work, teamwork, leadership, and nature conservation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform a wide range of important conservation and operational duties inside the park.

Supporting Conservation and Wildlife Protection

One of the main responsibilities is helping implement conservation policies and environmental management plans within the park.

This includes:

  • Protecting wildlife and biodiversity
  • Monitoring animal populations
  • Supporting conservation projects
  • Assisting with ecosystem management

The role plays a major part in preserving South Africa’s natural heritage.

Assisting With Law Enforcement Activities

The Assistant Section Ranger will also assist with law enforcement initiatives inside the park.

Minimum Requirements for the Job

Applicants interested in this exciting opportunity must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • NQF Level 6/National Diploma in Nature Conservation, Nature Science, or Environmental Management
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience in conservation or wildlife management
  • At least 1 to 2 years supervising field ranger teams
  • Firearm handling qualifications and competencies
  • Computer literacy
  • Driver’s licence (Code 10 is an advantage)
  • No criminal record

Police clearance checks will also be conducted.

Qualifications That Can Improve Your Chances

The following qualifications are considered advantageous:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in a related field
  • Grade 2 Environmental Management Inspector qualification

Applicants with higher qualifications or specialised conservation training may stand out during the selection process.
