SANParks Receptionist Vacancy

Addo Elephant National Park

Addo Elephant National Park is one of the most famous parks in the Eastern Cape. It is known for its elephants, beautiful landscapes, and visitors from all over the world.

Important: There is no official staff accommodation in the park. You must have your own place to stay and your own transport.

Job Title: Receptionist (Fixed-Term Contract)

This is a 6-month contract position reporting to the Duty Manager.

As a Receptionist, you will be the first person visitors see or speak to. That means your attitude, professionalism, and communication skills are very important.

What You Need to Apply

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
  • NQF Level 5 qualification in:
    • Office Management and Technology
    • Office Administration
    • Secretarial Studies

Work Experience

  • 2–3 years’ experience working at a Front Office in tourism or hospitality
  • Experience as an office administrator or office assistant
  • 1–2 years’ experience as a receptionist or switchboard operator in tourism or hospitality (this is an advantage)

Skills Required

  • Good telephone skills
  • Strong people skills
  • Good administration skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Computer literacy (MS Word and MS Excel – proof required)

What You Will Be Doing Every Day

This role involves more than just answering phones. You will be responsible for several important tasks.

Office Management Duties

  • Receive and direct telephone calls
  • Take and send messages quickly and clearly
  • Welcome visitors in a friendly way
  • Check guests in and out using the reservation system
  • Provide information about park facilities and activities
  • Raise extra charges where needed
  • Ensure outstanding payments are collected correctly
  • Assist guests with booking changes and special requests
  • Close work shifts on the SANParks reservation system
  • Handle guest complaints professionally
  • Manage bookings
  • Perform general reception and entrance gate administration
  • Do additional tasks requested by the Duty Manager
  • Sometimes perform Gate Official or Gate Administrator duties
  • Follow SANParks dress code and company rules

You will need to stay calm, especially during busy periods. Visitors may ask many questions, and sometimes they may have complaints. Your job is to help solve problems and make sure guests leave happy.

Salary and Benefits

The salary is based on the Paterson B5 job grade. The package includes:

  • Basic salary
  • Allowances
  • Benefits according to the SANParks HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service
