About the SAPS Internship Programme 2025

The SAPS Internship Programme is designed to give young South Africans practical work experience while preparing them for future careers. This programme allows interns to apply their academic knowledge, work alongside skilled professionals, and receive mentorship while serving the nation.

The internships run across different SAPS divisions and provincial offices, meaning you could be placed anywhere in South Africa. During the internship, participants will receive a monthly stipend, which is determined by the SAPS Divisional Commissioner for Human Resource Development.

  • Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations
  • Financial Management Services
  • Human Resource Development
  • Human Resource Management
  • Legal Services
  • Protection and Security Services
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Technology Management Services
  • Visible Policing and Operations
  • Internal Audit and Inspectorate

Each division provides hands-on learning experiences to help interns understand how SAPS operates and to build their future careers.


Who Can Apply – Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the SAPS Internship Programme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen with a valid ID.
  • Have a relevant qualification if you are applying as a graduate intern.
  • Be unemployed and have no previous experience in the field you are applying for.
  • Must not have taken part in any other internship programme related to this field.
  • Have no criminal record or pending criminal cases.
  • Provide a legitimate residential address.
  • Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

For Graduate Internships: You must submit proof of a completed qualification with a certified statement of results.

For Student Internships: You must provide a letter from your institution confirming that practical experience is required, issued within the last two years.


What Interns Will Do

During this internship, you will gain real-world experience while assisting SAPS with daily tasks. Duties may include:

  • Providing administrative and operational support in your assigned department.
  • Assisting with projects, research, and investigations.
