Sasol Invites Unemployed South African Youth to Apply for Their 2025 PV Solar Training Programme (Multiple Spots Available) – Closing Date: 29 August 2025

Are you between the ages of 18 and 35, currently unemployed, and ready to step into one of South Africa’s fastest-growing industries? Sasol, in partnership with The Education Support Forum (TEDSF) and The Jobs Fund, has officially opened applications for its fully funded PV Solar Training Programme starting in 2025.

This exciting 4-week training opportunity is designed to give young people real-world skills in the renewable energy sector, focusing specifically on solar energy installation and maintenance — a booming field that’s creating jobs across South Africa.

Applications close on 29 August 2025, and seats are limited, so if you live in the uMhlathuze Local Municipality and want a future-proof skillset, this opportunity is made for you.

What Is the Sasol PV Solar Training Programme?

The Sasol PV Solar Training Programme 2025 is a fast-paced, practical, and fully accredited training course that prepares youth for careers in solar energy. In just 4 weeks, learners are trained in the basics of solar power systems, how to install and maintain them, and how to troubleshoot common problems.

This programme is backed by SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) and aligned with Energy and Water SETA standards — meaning your training is recognized and respected nationally.

But it’s more than just training. You’ll also receive a monthly stipend, get hands-on experience, and even access support for jobs and starting your own solar business.

Who Can Apply?

This programme is ideal for young South Africans who are serious about entering the green energy space. Here’s what you need to qualify:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be unemployed and available to train full-time for 4 weeks
  • Have Matric with Maths and Science, or an N3 Electrical Engineering qualification
  • Be passionate about renewable energy, especially solar power
  • Live in the uMhlathuze Local Municipality

Preference is given to previously disadvantaged individuals, as the programme aims to build a more inclusive and skilled energy workforce.

What Will You Learn?

The training covers both theory and practical skills in solar PV (photovoltaic) systems, helping you build confidence in:

  • Installing solar panels and systems
  • Performing safety checks
  • Troubleshooting common issues
  • Understanding how solar systems integrate with buildings
  • Preparing for employment or entrepreneurship in the solar space

Programme Benefits

This is not just a course — it’s a launchpad for your career in renewable energy. Here’s what you’ll gain:

  • Fully paid tuition and learning materials
  • A monthly stipend to help cover your living expenses during training
  • Real-world solar experience through hands-on workshops and fieldwork
  • Access to job placement support or help to start your own solar business
  • A nationally recognised certificate that proves your technical skills

Where Is the Training Held?

Training will take place at approved centres across South Africa, with a focus on provinces where solar energy adoption is growing. Since you must be a resident of uMhlathuze, this ensures your training is close to home, and opportunities are tailored to your area’s energy needs.

The goal is to train hundreds of young people each year, creating a new wave of solar technicians and entrepreneurs who can contribute to local economies and help end load shedding.
