About the Mining Operator Role

As a Mining Operator underground (UG), you support mining activities by operating different types of mining machinery, both small and large. You work under the guidance of experienced miners and engineers, helping the mine function smoothly and safely. This job involves working at heights and in confined spaces, so you must be comfortable with those conditions.

Your daily tasks include keeping mining areas clean and safe, spotting any faults or problems without supervision, and helping with any other duties needed to meet operational goals.

Requirements for Candidates

• You should have completed Grade 10 with Maths or Math Literacy and English.
• If you are an internal candidate (already a Seriti employee), your experience and licenses must match the job’s multiskilling requirements.
• External candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in coal mining and hold the necessary licenses.
• Willingness and ability to be trained on various mining machines is essential.
• A strong focus on safety is critical. You must understand safety systems and keep an excellent safety record.
• Good English reading, writing, and communication skills are needed.
• You must be ready to do a practical driving test and a behavioral assessment.
• The role requires coping well with work pressure, working shifts and overtime when needed.
• Comfort working on heights and with large equipment is a must.
• You must have a team spirit and a valid K53 driver’s license.
• A Certificate of Fitness is required or you must be able to get one.

Bonus Qualifications

• Previous mining experience will give you an advantage.
• Having machine-specific mining licenses or multiskilling licenses is helpful.
• Being competent as a B – UG operator (Roof Bolt Operator) fits well with this role.
