About the Security Official Role

The main purpose of the Security Official position is to protect and safeguard SARB personnel, facilities, and assets at the Head Office. This includes preventing unauthorised access, responding to emergencies, and ensuring that all security systems function properly.

This is not a casual guarding job. It is a structured, high-responsibility role that requires training, experience, and mental readiness.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Security Official at SARB, your daily responsibilities will include a wide range of important tasks, such as:

Access Control and Site Protection

  • Controlling who enters and exits secure areas
  • Checking access permissions and monitoring movement
  • Preventing unauthorised access at all times

Guarding, Patrolling, and Escorting

  • Conducting regular patrols around the facility
  • Guarding sensitive areas and key points
  • Escorting authorised personnel and visitors safely

Responding to Security and Emergency Situations

  • Identifying security threats, alarms, or suspicious behaviour
  • Responding quickly and correctly to incidents
  • Reporting all security and emergency situations

Security Systems and Equipment

  • Monitoring CCTV, alarms, and other security systems
  • Ensuring security equipment is used correctly and efficiently
  • Reporting faults or issues immediately

Emergency Preparedness

  • Assisting with evacuations during emergencies
  • Taking part in emergency drills and simulations
  • Remaining calm and professional under pressure

Administration and Reporting

  • Writing clear security reports
  • Completing electronic occurrence books and pocketbooks
  • Keeping accurate records of incidents and patrols

Security officials are also expected to keep learning, improve how they work, and follow all SARB security rules and procedures.


Minimum Requirements to Apply

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
  • PSIRA Grade C certificate
  • Firearm competency certificates for:
    • 9 mm pistol
    • Semi-automatic rifle
    • Shotgun
  • 2 to 5 years of experience working in a security environment
  • Strong knowledge of security laws, including:
    • National Key Points (NKP) Act
    • Firearms Control Act
    • Criminal Procedure Act
  • Good understanding of SARB security policies and firearm rules
  • Medical, psychological, and physical fitness suitable for security work
  • Willingness to work long hours and shifts, including weekends

These requirements are non-negotiable due to the sensitive nature of the work.

  • Write clear and accurate reports

Added Advantages (Not Mandatory)

Applicants with the following will have an advantage:

  • Completed National Key Points (NKP) training
  • Additional PSIRA training
  • Experience in physical or tactical security training

While these are not required, they strengthen your application.


About the Group Security Management Department (GSMD)

The Security Official role falls under the Group Security Management Department (GSMD) at SARB. This department is responsible for all security-related functions across the SARB Group.

GSMD includes:

  • Security Operations
  • Security Governance, Risk, and Compliance
  • Security Auxiliary Services

  • Security risk analysis and threat prevention
