Job Overview:

Stellenbosch University is seeking a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Control Room Operator within the Risk Management and Campus Security department at Tygerberg Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and monitoring security systems, handling client inquiries, and ensuring the safety and security of the University community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive and manage walk-in clients and handle telephonic reports and inquiries.
  • Record all reports onto an electronic database.
  • Coordinate the check-in and check-out register, handle equipment receipt, and manage inquiries from contract security personnel.
  • Receive deliveries, lost and found items, and track down owners of lost goods.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries and references for Stellenbosch University, Tygerberg Campus.
  • Provide support or emergency services as required by the University community.
  • Manage and monitor the charging of two-way radio batteries.
  • Monitor the WhatsApp application and respond to reports and inquiries.
  • Maintain records of logistical resources, including their condition during “In and Out” bookings.
  • Monitor CCTV cameras and the alarm system used by the University.
  • Dispatch complaints to operational members such as patrol leaders, patrol officers, and security officers.
  • Keep the leader updated on all incidents.

Job Requirements:

  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
  • Three or more years of proven security and control room experience.
  • Security training from Grade C to E.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Contactable work-related references.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • No criminal record.
  • Good health and willingness to work shifts.
  • Willingness to perform additional services as required.
  • Own transport to and from work.
  • Valid Code EB driver’s license.
  • Related customer service training.
  • Ability to compile reports and documents in MS Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience in using electronic reporting systems, CCTV systems, and alarm systems.
  • Experience at a tertiary or similar institution.
