Food & Beverage Attendant Job Duties (What You’ll Be Doing)
## 1) Preparing the Work Area Before Service
Before guests arrive, the work must be ready. This includes:
- Setting up tables, chairs, and place settings
- Preparing mise-en-place (getting everything ready for service)
- Checking cleanliness in your section
- Checking that equipment is working properly
- Setting up and breaking down function venues when needed
You also need to follow health and safety rules at all times.
### Important tasks in this area
- Keeping your station clean and neat
- Storing equipment safely
- Taking part in stock takes
- Reporting issues like broken equipment or shortages
## 2) Delivering Food Service to Guests
This is where your customer service skills really matter. Your job includes:
- Taking guest orders correctly and quickly
- Capturing orders in the system
- Explaining menu items clearly
- Recommending meals and specials
- Working with kitchen staff for special requests
- Serving food and drinks neatly and professionally
- Clearing tables after meals

## 3) Preparing and Serving Beverages (Drinks)
In many shifts, you will also handle beverage service. This could include:
- Taking drink orders and capturing them in the system
- Mixing drinks and serving beverages properly
- Keeping track of bar stock and completing stock sheets
- Doing daily bar stock counts (small items)
- Reporting breakages and shortages
### Beverage service may include
- Cocktail knowledge
- Barista/Barrister skills (coffee)
- Serving wines, beers and spirits
- Professional presentation of drinks
