💡 What Is a Peer Educator?
As a Peer Educator, you’ll be working closely with people who inject or use drugs (PWID/PWUD), offering life-saving info, support, and services. You’ll be the bridge between the community and health services—because you’ve been there, you understand the challenges, and you know how to help.
✅ Minimum Requirements
To apply, you must:
- Have Grade 10 or higher
- Be a current or former drug user – this role is for peers who understand the lifestyle
- Have 1 year of experience working in the PWID community or as a peer educator
- Speak English and at least one other local language fluently
- Have a clear criminal record
🛠️ Your Key Responsibilities
- 📦 Distribute harm reduction packs and safe sex items
- 💬 Share accurate health information about HIV, TB, hepatitis, safe injecting, SRH (sexual and reproductive health), and human rights
- 💉 Refer and link clients to treatment and testing services (mobile nurses, clinics, drop-in centres)
- ✅ Encourage HIV testing and support HIV-negative individuals to start PrEP
- 🧠 Refer people for psychological support and social services
- 💊 Recruit for Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) and check eligibility
- 🎁 Identify women who inject drugs and give out dignity packs
